Georgian Continental (france) Pedestal Stem Wine Glass

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The World is Made of Glass Ltd.

This is a Continental (these glasses are normally attributed to the Dutch but we believe this to be French), Georgian/Louis XVI wine glass dating from the second half of the 18th century. Three very similar glasses can be seen in Jacqueline Bellanger''s book - ''Verre d''usage et de prestige, France 1500-1800'' on page 383.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows the age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot and the rim of the bowl consistent with 250+ years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

The glass has a rounded bucket-shaped bowl measuring 6.6 cm (2.6 inches) in diameter at the misshapen rim. The bowl is plain and sits on a six-sided pedestal stem and a conical, folded foot which measures 6.2 cm (2.5 inches) in diameter. The glass is 14 cm (5.6 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. The glass shows the early signs of crizzling (glass disease)...
