Samuel Deacon, Barton In The Beans Georgian 8 Day Longcase Clock

A George III period oak and mahogany cross banded 8 day painted dial moon phases longcase clock by collected and well documented maker Samuel Deacon of Barton in the Beans, Leicestershire c.1790. The small proportioned case with swan neck mahogany trimmed pediment to the hood, reeded pilasters set either side of the mahogany trimmed glazed hood window. Shaped top door with acorn finial to the top and Sheraton inlay to the centre, reeded pilasters set either side. Panel to the base with inlay to match the door, moulded plinth to the base with original bracket feet below. The 8 day movement with unusual urn shaped pillars typical of the maker and bell striking on the hour. Original painted arched dial with Arabic numerals and blued steel hands; working moon phases to the arch and strawberry blossom design decoration to the corners of the dial, plus subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture. Samuel Deacon was a highly regarded maker and Baptist minister (1746 - 1816) and known for his unusual style of movements; many items from his workshop still exist today in the Leicestershire County Council museum - a link to the relevant Leicestershire County Council museum page is leicestershirecollections.org.uk/working-life/keeping-time
 
This example presented in superb original condition with a rich color and polish, the movement fully overhauled and working. Measures 85'' tall x 19'' maximum width at the hood x 13.5'' wide at the trunk x 9'' maximum depth.
