Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Gustavian style originated in Sweden during the late 18th century under King Gustav III, blending French Neoclassicism with local Swedish craftsmanship. It is characterised by symmetrical proportions, restrained ornamentation, muted or distressed painted finishes, and hand-painted folk motifs.

These cabinets were predominantly constructed from local softwoods such as pine or fir using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Surfaces were finished with milk paint or mineral pigments, often embellished with hand-painted urn and floral details.

Authentic pieces feature natural age-related paint distress, hand-planed timber backboards, hand-forged iron hardware, and original painted inscriptions, dates, or monograms typical of regional Swedish workshops.

Position the cabinet as a standalone focal piece against a neutral backdrop. Pair its muted blue tones with natural linen textiles, simple oak flooring, and understated ceramic vessels to highlight its historical texture.

Maintain painted timber by dusting gently with a dry, lint-free cloth. Avoid water, harsh chemical detergents, or solvent-based polishes that can compromise historic pigment layers, and keep the object in a stable climate away from direct heat sources.
