Large Staffordshire Adams ‘Bramble’ Vase/urn C1860

19th century
Description

Standing an impressive 13 inches (33 cm) high, this impressive STAFFORDSHIRE TWO-HANDLED VASE or URN bears the mark of W. ADAMS of TUNSTALL. The PATTERN NAME is ‘BRAMBLE’ and it dates from circa 1860.

The VASE is highlighted with gilt, with a particularly attractive beaded collar around the neck.

How splendid it would look filled with a large bunch of English Country Garden Flowers and Foliage.

There is an old surface chip to the foot rim beneath one handle which can be seen in the photograph if the side. This is not readily seen when viewed from the front.

There is no restoration. At one time the Vase probably had a cover.

Height: 13 inches (33 cm)

Width: 14.5 inches (37 cm)

Delivery within Mainland UK is included.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian Staffordshire transferware features earthenware decorated via an engraved copper plate printing process, producing precise patterns in cobalt blue against a light ceramic body.

These vessels were typically slip-cast or mould-formed from refined earthenware or ironstone, fired, decorated with tissue-transferred underglaze enamel, clear glazed, and occasionally highlighted with hand-applied gold leaf guilding.

Authentic pieces generally display manufacturer backstamps, pattern registration marks, subtle transfer seams, age-appropriate crazing, and characteristic weight consistent with 19th-century earthenware production.

A decorative ceramic urn works effectively as a focal piece on a sideboard, dining table, or mantelpiece, where its classical form complements both traditional and minimalist contemporary schemes.

Clean gently by hand using lukewarm water and mild dish soap with a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive pads, chemical cleaners, immersion in standing water, or exposure to modern dishwashers.
