Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the Meiji era (18681912), this technique involves applying traditional lacquer work over fired porcelain forms, often combining painted cartouches, geometric patterning, and gilded details to create decorative contrast.

Craftsmen fired a hard-paste porcelain vessel first, after which natural urushi lacquer and pigments were applied to the exterior surface in layers, followed by detailed hand painting and polishing.

Authentic pieces feature signs of natural age, such as slight wear to the lacquer layer, unglazed firing rings on the base, hand-painted irregularities, and detailed diaper patterns typical of late 19th-century Japanese exported ceramics.

A large vessel of this scale functions as a focal point on a credenza, hallway sideboard, or within a fireplace alcove, pairing well with dark timber furniture and neutral backdrop walls.

Dust the surface gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid using water, detergents, or chemical solvents, as moisture and solvents can degrade the lacquer coating and lift painted details.
