Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Art Nouveau pedestal stand from the 19th century comprises a silver-plated mount holding a clear glass dish. The green velvet background behind the object contrasts with the silver-plated metal and transparent glass. The structure includes an oval pedestal base with beaded borders, vertical openwork scrollwork panels, and an upper collar supporting the bowl. The glass dish has a scalloped rim and a beaded pattern running around the outer edge. The complete piece stands on a dark wood surface and measures 20 cm high, 31 cm wide, and 23 cm deep. In a modern interior, this tazza suits placement on a dining table or sideboard for serving fruit or cake, or for holding a floral arrangement. The openwork metal components and scalloped glass bowl offer a decorative presentation for everyday use or entertaining. The scale allows for easy positioning on dining furniture without overwhelming the surrounding table setting.

FAQs

WMF, or Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik, centrepieces are decorative metal and glass serving vessels manufactured in Germany around the turn of the 20th century, frequently showcasing Art Nouveau and Jugendstil design aesthetics.

These items typically combine electroplated nickel silver or Britannia metal bases with removable pressed, cut, or blown glass dishes and liners.

Authentic pieces generally feature stamped maker marks on the metal rim or base, such as the WMF running ostrich or letter stamps, alongside plating thickness codes such as I/O or OX.

A metal and glass comport can be positioned as a dining table centrepiece, arranged on a sideboard to hold fruit, or displayed on a console table as a decorative focal point.

The glass dish should be washed separately by hand using warm water and mild liquid soap, while the silver-plated base requires gentle cleaning with a soft microfibre cloth and specialized silver polish to protect the plated layer.
