Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain is a style of Japanese ceramic ware produced in the Arita region of northern Kyushu and exported from the port of Imari. Originally developed in the seventeenth century, it gained international popularity for its distinctive underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron-red and gold decorative enamel patterns.

Traditional Imari wares are crafted from fine white kaolin clay fired at high temperatures to create durable porcelain. Decorators apply underglaze cobalt blue before the initial firing, followed by hand-painted enamel overglazes in iron-red, green, and gold leaf before a secondary lower-temperature firing.

Authentic antique Imari porcelain often displays subtle irregularities in the glaze, spur marks on the base from kiln support pins, and hand-painted variations in the brushwork. Genuine nineteenth-century pieces typically feature dark cobalt blue hues and heavy iron-red enamelling with gilded highlights.

An Imari platter can be placed upright on a plate stand atop a sideboard or console table to serve as a focal point. Alternatively, mounting the charger securely on a gallery wall provides an artistic contrast against contemporary wall colours.

Care for gilded porcelain requires gentle dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth or camel-hair brush. Avoid abrasive chemical cleaners, immersion in hot water, or placement in dishwashers, as these methods can strip delicate overglaze enamel and gold leaf accents.
