Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Opaline glass is a semi-opaque to translucent glass developed in France during the early nineteenth century to emulate fine porcelain. Jean-Francois Robert was a renowned painter from the Sevres porcelain manufactory who patented a technique for painting enamel directly onto opaline glass, creating commissioned decorations for makers like Baccarat.

Pieces were hand-blown using glass formulated with bone ash or tin oxide to achieve an opaque milk-like appearance. Artisans applied polychrome enamels and gold leaf by hand, firing the pieces in kilns to fuse the decoration permanently to the glass body.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit smooth, hand-finished pontil scars on the base, fine hand-painted details with tactile enamel relief, and heavy, high-quality crystal glass construction rather than modern lightweight moulded glass.

A pair of opaline vases functions exceptionally well as a symmetrical focal point on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard. Their bright white ground and colourful enamelling complement both contemporary neutral palettes and classical interiors.

Clean gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a slightly dampened cloth with lukewarm water. Avoid chemical solvents, abrasive pads, immersion in water, or harsh detergents, as these can strip delicate surface gilding and enamel paint.
