Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of Kutani porcelain vases from the Taisho period around 1920 displays a colourful palette of red, gold, pink, and white enamel glazes. Each piece has a slender flared neck, a bulbous base, and hand-painted landscape panels depicting birds amidst foliage with gilt detailing and iron-red enamel. The surfaces show glossy glazed finishes, intricate floral patterns, and visible artisan signatures on the base without any chips, cracks, or abrasions. Each vase measures 23 cm high, 10 cm wide, and 10 cm deep. Placed on a mantelpiece or a display shelf in a living room, these Japanese porcelain items add traditional oriental styling to interior spaces.

FAQs

Kutani porcelain is a style of Japanese ceramic art originating from Ishikawa Prefecture, characterised by bold overglaze enamels, intricate line work, and the frequent use of iron-red background tones and gilded embellishments.

These vessels were formed from refined white porcelain clay, fired at high temperatures, and subsequently decorated by hand using overglaze enamel pigments and metallic gold leaf detailing.

Authentic Kutani porcelain features dense hand-painted decoration, prominent iron-red detailing, miniature panel illustrations, and artist marks or character signatures painted onto the underside base.

Positioning a balanced pair of Kutani vases on a mantelpiece, hallway console, or dark wood sideboard introduces striking colour and historical texture that complements both classic and eclectic interior schemes.

Maintain porcelain by dusting softly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding water immersion or abrasive chemical cleaners that may damage delicate overglaze enamels and original gilding.
