Finger bowl enamelled with three dragonflies and various flowering water plants. Polished pontil to underside of base. Painted monogram mark HW. Enamelled by Hannah Walton c1900

Rim dia: 11.5 cm.

Condition: Very good.

Note: Hannah Moore Walton 1863 -1940 was a Scottish Arts and Crafts artist who worked from the family home in 5 Belmont Terrace Hillhead Glasgow, where her sister Helen established a her studio in 1881. The sisters specialised in this type of painting on glassware and chose decorative subjects associate with water. Literature: Burkhauser, Jude ‘Glasgow Girls: Women in Art and Design 1880 - 1920. Finger bowls are small dining accessories designed to hold water for cleansing fingers during formal meal services. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, artists of the Arts and Crafts movement decorated clear glassware with hand-painted enamel motifs inspired by nature.
