Victorian glass from the 1880s is characterised by experimental techniques, vibrant colours, and ornamental flourishes often influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and global glassmaking traditions.

These pieces were typically handcrafted from soda-lime or lead glass, utilising free-blowing or mould-blowing techniques combined with applied hot-glass trails and hand-crimping.

Authentic pieces often exhibit pontil scars on the base, minor bubbles or impurities within the glass matrix, and consistent wear patterns appropriate to their age.

Placing them on a reflective surface such as a mantelpiece or sideboard allows natural light to accentuate the colour and translucent qualities of the glass.

Care involves gentle hand washing in lukewarm water with mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes, and keeping them out of direct sunlight to preserve colour stability.
