Antique Inlaid Mahogany Moon Phase Longcase Grandfather Clock Thomas Lees Bury

DESCRIPTION:
 
This is an exquisite mahogany long case clock, which is of super grand proportions and has a wonderful rare feature of a center date and center painting to the dial. It has an eight-day movement on a broken arch painted face with rolling moon. This truly is a majestic clock which has the most fantastic mahogany case and is incredibly detailed.
 
If we start with the hood, this has swan necks with arched molded cornice and to the center of the swan necks is a wonderful pediment. The hood door is beautifully inlaid with stringing and is flanked by superb square reeded and inlaid columns. Above the hood door is also inlaid with stringing.
 
Moving down to the trunk, the lovely shaped triple peak full length door which is beautifully edged with shaped moulding and inlaid in fine stringing. The trunk door is flanked by square reeded and inlaid columns. The door contains the most wonderful flame mahogany.
 
The base is is again beautifully inlaid with stringing in a square and with cross banding to the outside and a pretty flame mahogany to the centre whilst the front corners are canted. The base is then raised on lovely delicate ogee bracket feet.
 
The eight-day movement has a broken arch painted face with rolling moon and subsidiary second and date dials. The dial is set out with Arabic numerals and the four corners are beautifully adorned with scenes depicting the four Continents. To the center of the dial is also beautifully painted with a two shells. The clock has the pretty fingers. The moon disc is lovely and in addition to the two moons has a lovely cottage scene and a galleon.
 
The dial bears the makers name Thos Lees Bury. In ''Greater Manchester CLOCKS & CLOCKMAKERS by Edmund Davies'' there are several Thomas Lees of Bury Listed as this clock is dated circa 1800 / 1820 this would indicated this clock to be by LEES, THOMAS I:
