Japanese Meiji Period Lacquered Table Cabinet

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors

A beautiful small lacquered tabletop cabinet dating from the early 20th Century. The cabinet is adorned with ornate engraved copper hinges, strapping and corner pieces and is decorated with traditional images of birds and foliage. The doors open to reveal 6 drawers inside the cabinet, each with a delicate metal handle and decorated with images of foliage and leaves on a black lacquered ground. There is a large drawer below the cabinet doors with matching decoration.

The cabinet is in good condition for its age. There is some wear, minor splits and small losses to the lacquer in places and general signs of age and use but the hinges are in good order and the drawers are generally clean and tidy. There is no key but the closing latch works well. The metal work is slightly tarnished in places but overall it displays very well.
