Description

Hi

I have for sale a a1960s carriage clock made by L Epee in France that is in old shop stock condition I believe never used, keeping good time over the eight days signed on the dial by L Epee and on the rear of the movement by the maker L Epee France.

The case and movement are totally untouched and original a small service added only so the clock is gleaming away in the sunshine.

The Case

The case is in solid heavy brass in the Dolice case style standing 15cm high x 8cm wide with a depth of 7cm it is in perfect condition with mint bevelled glass sides/front/back door and top viewing glass.

The case has been buffed up and is gleaming.

.

The Dial

The dial is in mint perfect original condition in white with the original black moon hands and Roman numerals and signed by L Epee.

The Movement

The movement is an eight-day time only; the movement has been serviced so keep great time over the eight days via the original jewelled escapement to the top.

The movement is signed by L Epee to the rear with their sign stamped in and the serial number stamped in.

I have a key for the clock that’s included.

Overall a very heavy quality carriage clock by a quality maker that looks stunning on display and contains all of its original features is quite a rare find these days.

I will post worldwide.

Carriage clocks originated in 19th-century France as portable timepieces designed for travellers, officers, and the bourgeoisie, combining mechanical precision with robust brass and glass housings.

These timepieces typically feature heavy cast brass or gilded cases fitted with transparent bevelled glass panels and white enamel dials featuring Roman numerals.

Authenticity is determined by examining the mechanical movement, maker hallmarks or signatures on the backplate, the weight of the brass case, and the use of hand-bevelled glass.

Position the clock on a flat surface such as a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or office desk to add a touch of traditional metallic warmth and functional horological interest to contemporary spaces.

Keep the mechanism away from direct sunlight and moisture, clean the brass casing gently with a soft microfibre cloth without abrasive polishes, and have the movement professionally serviced periodically.
