Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An 18th-century oak hall cupboard is a substantial wooden storage cabinet designed for hallways or primary living spaces to store garments, linens, or household items. These pieces typically feature framed geometric panelling, thick oak construction, and lower drawer sections.

Pieces from this era were constructed using solid native oak and assembled with hand-cut mortise and tenon joints secured with wooden pegs. Back panels and drawer bottoms were typically hand-riven or hand-planed, and hardware was forged from iron or cast in brass.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of age such as slight timber shrinkage along panel joins, uneven hand-planed surfaces, and oxidation around original iron or brass fittings. Look for wooden peg construction, hand-dovetailed drawer joints, and natural wear along the base and handles.

A large oak cupboard serves as a focal point in a hallway, dining room, or bedroom. Pairing dark, textured timber with modern neutral walls, subtle lighting, and contemporary soft furnishings creates an inviting contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern simplicity.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent warping or splitting. Treat the surface periodically with a high-quality beeswax polish using a soft cloth to nourish the timber and maintain its natural patina.
