Bracket Clock By John Stoddart, London. In A Rosewood Case. circa 1840.

A beautiful and substantial table clock in fine condition.
 
The substantial 8 day duration, double fusee, 5 pillar movement with Anchor Recoil escapement and rack striking the hours on a rear-mounted bell of good tone. Also having a strike/silent selector and hour pull repeating. The rectangular backplate is engraved with the maker''s signature ''John Stoddart, LONDON'' and also has a pendulum rod locking block and knob for transit.
 
Behind an 8'' diameter, bowed and painted iron dial which is notched at the upper perimeter through with protrudes the strike/silent selecting lever. The off-white background has a slim divided minute track with diamond quarters, Roman hour numerals and the centre is signed ''John Stoddart, LONDON'' above and below the centre. The hands are matching blued steel ''open moon'' style.
