Opaque twist wine glasses were predominantly produced in England during the mid-to-late 18th century, specifically between 1745 and 1780, following the introduction of the Excise Act which taxed glass by weight.

These pieces were hand-blown using lead glass, featuring intricate stems formed by drawing out opaque white enamel glass rods encased within clear glass.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit pontil marks on the underside of the foot, natural surface wear consistent with age, and slight optical distortions or inclusions within the handmade glass.

Displaying historical stemware within glass-fronted cabinets or on open shelving introduces tactile texture and historical narrative to modern living spaces.

Antique glass should be washed strictly by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and abrasive materials to protect the delicate surface.
