An antique ale glass can be displayed within a glass-fronted cabinet, on a dedicated shelf, or styled on a sideboard as part of a curated vignette, allowing its historical form to contrast with contemporary surroundings.

Antique glass should be washed exclusively by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding harsh scrubbing or sudden temperature changes. It must be dried carefully with a lint-free cloth and kept out of direct sunlight.

Authentic pieces often exhibit pontil marks on the underside of the foot, characteristic wear scratches known as foot-ring wear, tiny trapped air bubbles within the metal, and slight irregularities in symmetry typical of hand-blown production.

These pieces were typically crafted from lead glass, introduced to England in the late 17th century, which provided higher refractive index and durability. Artisans formed the vessels using free-blowing and mold-blowing techniques before hand-tooling the stems and feet.

The balustroid style emerged during the 18th century, featuring stems that evolved from heavier seventeenth-century baluster forms into slimmer, lighter profiles often incorporating knops, air bubbles, or collar elements above conical or funnel bowls.
