A fine George III dial clock in a mahogany case, the mahogany surround with moulded edge and with a hinged cast brass bezel with convex glass to the 14” brass dial with a broad raised chapter ring with Roman numerals in black and outer minute track with Arabic five minute intervals and an inner quarter marking track, around a matted centre with decorative pierced black steel hands and a fitted shaped plate marked L J Meyer, to an eight day fusee timepiece movement with an anchor escapement within A-shaped brass plates, fitted at the back with an integral iron loop and with stabilisers at the sides, English circa 1780. Supplied with door key and winding key.
Condition: Overall very good, the clock is in very good condition with no damage or splits to the mahogany surround, the hinge is solid and the brass bezel is in good condition, the brass dial is in excellent condition with no damage and the numbering appears to be all original, the movement has been fully serviced and overhaule...d and is in excellent working condition, there are no signs of there having been a conversion to anchor escapement, the box at the back is possibly a later replacement but no later than 1830, the stabilisers have been fitted within the last fifty years. Overall the clock has a wonderful appearance with a stunning dial which has a lovely warm colour and beautifully drawn numbers, the hands are very attractive and the mahogany surround has a pleasing colour. The maker''s label on the dial seems to be a later retailer’s name.
