Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique food cupboard, often referred to as a food safe or bread cupboard, was a historical kitchen storage unit designed before mechanical refrigeration. These cupboards featured ventilated panels, such as wire mesh or pierced wood, to allow airflow while keeping insects and pests away from stored provisions.

In the late 18th century, food cupboards were typically crafted from native softwoods or hardwoods such as pine, oak, or elm. Construction features included hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon joinery, wire mesh or pierced tin inserts, and iron or brass hardware.

Authentic 18th-century pine furniture displays hand-planed interior surfaces, irregular iron nails or wooden pegs, and natural shrinkage across wide timber panels. Genuine age manifests through authentic patination, wear around touch points, and historic hand-painted or scumbled finishes.

A rustic food cupboard functions effectively as a larder or china cabinet in a contemporary kitchen or dining area. It can also serve as a linen cupboard in a hallway or bathroom, balancing modern clean lines with historical texture and character.

Preserve painted pine furniture by positioning it away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent timber movement. Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish sparingly to unpainted wood sections while avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
