Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An epergne is a decorative tabletop centrepiece designed to hold flowers, fruit, or sweetmeats during formal dining service. Popular throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these items feature a central stem supporting suspended baskets, dishes, or trumpet-shaped glass vases.

Nineteenth-century epergnes were predominantly crafted using cast bronze treated with mercury gilding (ormolu) or electroplating, paired with hand-cut, molded, or etched lead crystal glass elements.

Authentic period pieces feature crisp hand-chased metalwork, hand-etched or blown glass components, weight consistent with solid cast metal, and natural surface patination or light oxidisation in recessed areas.

A gilt bronze epergne functions as a focal point when placed at the centre of a dining table, on a sideboard, or atop a hallway console, styled either empty to show the metalwork or with floral arrangements.

Clean the metal components using a soft, dry lint-free cloth without abrasive polishes that could strip the mercury gilding. Remove glass elements carefully to wash them separately in warm water with mild soap.
