Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This mid-19th century Italian Renaissance Revival cabinet stands as a substantial two-tiered cupboard formed of dark brown walnut with a warm finish and natural patina. The architectural design incorporates a moulded cornice, fluted pilasters, small ring-pull drawer handles, and globular bun feet supporting the base. Relief-carved panels on the upper and lower doors depict sixteenth-century figures amidst foliage, complemented by acanthus leaf ornamentation along the friezes and drawer fronts. Measuring 208 cm high, 136.5 cm wide, and 56 cm deep, the piece offers generous enclosed storage including internal shelving. Placed within a gentleman's library, study, or grand hallway, the cabinet serves as a striking storage solution for books, collections, or tableware while anchoring a traditional or eclectic interior scheme.

FAQs

Renaissance Revival cabinets from this period drew inspiration from 16th-century Italian furniture designs, featuring structural architectural elements, detailed relief carvings of figures or classical scenes, and heavy moulded cornices.

These storage pieces were predominantly constructed from dense timber like walnut, utilizing traditional cabinetmaking joinery such as dovetail joints, mortise and tenon frames, and hand-carved decorative door panels.

Authentic period furniture displays hand-worked carving irregularities, original patination on unvarnished interior timber surfaces, age-appropriate wear to bases or feet, and hand-planed rear panelling.

A substantial carved cabinet creates a striking focal point in modern dining spaces or entrance halls when set against neutral plaster walls and contrasted with minimalist lighting or contemporary artwork.

Dust surfaces regularly with a clean microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the wood grain once or twice per year, keeping the cabinet away from direct heat sources to prevent timber movement.
