Set Of Three Late Victorian Bristol Blue Apothecary Bottles

£175    $230    €209
This is a set of three late Victorian Bristol blue apothecary bottles dating from the end of the 19th century.

The bottles are in excellent condition for their age. They show age related wear and tear to the bases commensurate with a century or so of use.

The bottles are cylindrical in shape and were blown in ''Bristol'' blue glass. The bottles measure 7.7 (3.1 inches) in width, are 17cm (6.8 inches) in height without the stoppers, and 20 cm (8 inches) in height with the stoppers inserted. The bottles have labels made by etching the glass around the letters. The labels are for ''Syrup Rhamni'' (fermented juice of buckthorn berries), ''Syrup Tolu'' (myroxylon balsamum, a South American tree) and ''Syrup Marrubi'' (horehound). There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.

The stoppers are of the same colour and age as the bottles and are of the correct type but the finials vary in size and it is quite probable that all the stoppers did not start with these bottles. No matter; they look the part.

They each weigh 445 g. (~ 1 lb.).
