Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late Georgian tabletop chest of drawers is a compact piece of English country house furniture constructed from warm brown mahogany with visible grain and a polished finish. The design incorporates two short drawers positioned above three long drawers, all fitted with turned wooden knobs and brass keyhole escutcheons, supported by small bracket feet with minor veneer damage and surface scuffs consistent with age. Measuring 50 cm high, 48 cm wide and 28 cm deep, the chest sits comfortably on a sideboard top or desk to store small personal items, letters, or collectables in a traditional or period living space.

FAQs

A Georgian tabletop chest of drawers is a small-scale wooden storage cabinet produced during the eighteenth or early nineteenth century, constructed for use on flat surfaces such as desks or sideboards to hold small items.

These pieces are generally crafted from dense hardwoods like mahogany or oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, brass escutcheons, turned wooden handles, and thin timber drawer linings.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-planed secondary woods, slight irregularities in hand-sawn dovetails, natural surface oxidisation inside drawer cavities, and historical wear consistent with age.

A tabletop chest can be placed on a desk, sideboard, or deep window sill to store stationery, jewellery, or trinkets while introducing historical depth to a contemporary room scheme.

Regular dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and an occasional application of beeswax polish will protect the timber finish; avoid placing the item near radiators or direct sunlight to prevent drying and cracking.
