Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export wares decorated in underglaze blue, iron red, and gold, which heavily influenced European factories and nineteenth century revivalists like Samson of Paris who produced homage pieces.

These decorative objects are crafted from hard-paste porcelain, hand-painted with mineral pigments, and often highlighted with gilded details before being fired at high temperatures.

Authentication involves examining the paste, the hand-painted brushwork quality, the specific colour palette mimicking earlier historic styles, and often looking for pseudo-marks or Samson maker stamps on the base.

This type of statement vessel works effectively as a focal point on a large surface such as a sideboard or console, contrasting against neutral walls and modern minimalist furniture to highlight its intricate patterns.

Dust gently with a soft dry brush and clean only when necessary using a damp cloth with mild soap, avoiding abrasive cleaners and harsh chemicals to protect the delicate enamel and gold leaf.
