This Georgian mahogany linen press dates from 1800 and exhibits an English Country House design. The structure comprises warm brown timber with flame mahogany panels, finished in an original polish. The upper section features a moulded cornice above twin opening cupboard doors with shaped fielded panels, while the lower base contains four storage drawers arranged in two rows of two. The drawers are fitted with oval brass drop handles on decorative backplates, and the entire wardrobe is raised on bracket feet. The wood displays natural signs of age including surface wear. Measuring 190 cm high, 129.5 cm wide and 53.5 cm deep, this large two-section storage piece separates for ease of movement. It suits placement in a bedroom or dressing room as a wardrobe and linen store, or in a hallway for coats and household textiles.

A Georgian linen press is a substantial piece of 18th-century storage furniture comprising an upper cupboard fitted with shelves or tray slides for folded linens, positioned above a base section containing drawers.

Cabinetmakers during the Georgian period primarily used solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers, often paired with secondary timber linings such as pine or oak, fitted with cast brass handles and iron locks.

Authentic pieces feature hand-sawn construction marks, hand-cut dovetail joints inside the drawers, original mortise locks, and natural timber patination consistent with 18th-century craft techniques.

A linen press can be utilised in a bedroom for clothing storage, in a hallway for coats and linens, or in a living space to house modern media while introducing warm timber character.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry lint-free cloth and apply beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to preserve the timber finish, avoiding placement near direct heat sources.
