Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Opalescent glass gained immense popularity during the Art Deco era of the 1920s and 1930s, particularly through the work of French glassmakers like Rene Lalique. The glass was formulation-engineered to capture light, producing a glowing, milky-blue shade characteristic of the periods focus on modern, radiant materials.

These pieces were produced using press-moulded techniques with glass containing specific chemical compounds, such as bone ash or fluorine salts. As the glass cooled at varying rates across its thickness, the light-scattering opalescent effect was created naturally within the raised designs.

Authentic period pieces typically feature wheel-cut, moulded, or acid-etched signatures on the underside or rim. Additionally, original items exhibit high-quality moulding detail, uniform light refraction, and subtle hand-finishing along the edges.

Displaying the plate vertically on a plate stand allows ambient light to pass through and highlight the intricate relief work. Placing it near a natural light source, such as on a sideboard or deep window sill, enhances its optical properties without overwhelming modern decor.

Hand wash the item gently in lukewarm water using a mild dish soap and a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid extreme temperature changes, abrasive cleaning pads, or dishwashers, which can cause thermal shock or dull the surface finish.
