This 19th-century miniature Anglo-Indian linen press follows an apprentice-piece design in warm brown hardwood, highlighted by dark ebony mouldings along the top cornice, midsection, and plinth. The upper cabinet contains a pair of panelled cupboard doors opening to sliding trays, positioned above a base section fitted with two small drawers over two graduated drawers below. Each drawer front secures a pair of circular gilt-brass ring handles with decorative backplates. The whole cabinet is raised on four carved lion paw feet, displaying detailed claw work. Measuring 58 cm high, 36 cm wide, and 22 cm deep, this compact piece serves as a striking display item or storage chest. It suits placement as a tabletop cabinet or sideboard top in a study, library, or living room, offering practical storage for small keepsakes or documents while maintaining a decorative presence within traditional interiors.

Anglo-Indian furniture originated during British administration in India, combining traditional European forms like linen presses and chests with indigenous hardwoods and local carving techniques. Miniature pieces were created as apprentice demonstration models, trade samples, or luxury desktop storage items.

Craftsmen primarily utilised dense native hardwoods such as teak, padauk, rosewood, and mahogany, paired with cast brass hardware, hand-cut dovetail joinery, and detailed hand-carved elements.

Key indicators include solid hardwood construction, hand-turned brass ring handles, unrefined backboards showing hand-saw marks, and distinctively carved regional design features such as hairy paw feet.

Miniature presses function as accent pieces on sideboards, desks, or bookshelves, providing functional desktop storage for stationery or small items while adding historical texture to modern schemes.

Position the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage or movement. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply natural beeswax sparingly to preserve the timber polish.
