French ormolu and enamelled glassware gained immense popularity during the 19th century, particularly in the Victorian and Napoleon III eras, when artisans combined gilded bronze mounts with delicately painted glass to create luxurious vanity items.

These items typically feature mouth-blown or pressed glass housed in fire-gilded brass mounts, known as ormolu, and are hand-decorated with vitreous enamel paints depicting floral and foliage motifs.

Authenticity is determined by examining the weight and construction of the metal mounts, the presence of hand-applied enamel work with slight variations, and the natural wear patterns on the gilding and glass base consistent with age.

Place the piece on a dressing table, marble bathroom shelf, or accent tray to introduce a touch of period texture, reflective metallic surfaces, and subtle colour.

Clean the piece gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, immersion in water, or abrasive scrubbing, as these can damage the delicate hand-painted enamel and the ormolu finish.
