We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A tantalus is a locking drinks cabinet invented in the Victorian era, designed to prevent unauthorized access to expensive spirits by servants or guests while still displaying the crystal decanters.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak or mahogany, featuring interlocking wood joinery, mirrored back panels, cut crystal glassware, and nickel-plated or brass locking mechanisms.

Authentication involves examining the hand-cut facets of the crystal, the patina of the wood, the construction of the locking mechanism (often stamped by makers like Betjemann), and traditional joinery marks underneath.

This piece works effectively as a statement object on a sideboard or home bar, blending functional history with rich textures that complement both traditional and modern decor schemes.

Maintain the wood using microcrystalline wax to preserve the finish, avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading, and clean the crystal decanters gently with warm water, avoiding harsh chemical abrasives.
