A rummer is a heavy, sturdy drinking vessel that became popular in Britain during the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, primarily used for serving rum, wine, or ale in taverns and homes.

These vessels were typically crafted from lead glass, known for its high refractive index and weight, and were often shaped using free-blown or mould-blown methods before being hand-cut and engraved.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural signs of age such as pontil marks on the base, surface wear consistent with handling, and minor bubbles or impurities within the handmade lead glass.

Antique glass can be displayed within open shelving cabinets or utilised as a singular accent piece on a sideboard to add historical texture and reflective qualities to a modern room.

Antique glass should be washed by hand using tepid water and a mild detergent, avoiding abrasive materials or sudden temperature changes to protect the delicate surface and engraving.
