Georgian silver dates from the reigns of British monarchs George I through George IV (1714-1830), characterised by classical proportions, understated elegance, and functional design.

These items are typically crafted from sterling silver, conforming to the British standard of 925 parts per thousand, often shaped by hand forging and featuring hallmarks for assay office, maker, and date.

Authentic pieces bear legible hallmarks stamped directly into the metal, indicating the lion passant for sterling standard, a city mark for the assay office, a date letter, and a makers mark.

Antique silver can be displayed in glass-fronted cabinets, used functionally for dining, or incorporated into tablescapes to add historical contrast and reflective metallic texture to contemporary spaces.

Preserve antique silver by storing it in anti-tarnish cloths, washing it by hand with mild soap when necessary, and avoiding abrasive polishes that wear away historical hallmarks and surface patination.
