Queen Anne Antique Silver Spoon

A wonderful piece of history. A solid Britannia Standard silver spoon dating from the beginning of the reign of Queen Anne.
 
It carries the hallmarks for London 1704 with the maker''s mark of John Broake. The spoon has a ''dog nose'', typical of the fashion of the time, and a rat tail at the base of the handle. There is no crest.
 
The Britannia Standard was introduced in 1696 and signifies a purer standard of silver than sterling - 95.8% compared to the 92.5% of sterling.
