Description

A fine quality flame mahogany 8 day longcase clock by AM Ortelli of Godalming c.1830.

The high quality “Gentleman’s Library” style case of small proportions, veneered in beautifully figured flame mahogany. The shallow break arch pediment hood with locking cast brass bezel with the original convex glass, glazed movement viewing windows to the hood sides. The shaped top long trunk door with choice curled mahogany veneers, of excellent colour and patination. The box base with raised shaped moulding, surmounted on the original shaped plinth. Original locks to the trunk door and hood bezel.

The circular painted white dial signed AM Ortelli, Godalming to the centre, with subsidiary seconds and calendar zones.

The fully restored, high quality movement of eight day duration, united by four knopped pillars, anchor escapement and rack striking the hours on a single bell.

Painted lead weights and heavy brass bob pendulum with polished brass strap.

Finely cut blued steel hands.

The movement is fully restored by our horologist who is a Fellow of the British Horological Institute (FBHI), having 35 years of full time professional engagement in the repair & restoration of clocks, watches, music boxes & barometers. Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
