Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of nineteenth century vases from the Qing Dynasty is made from red cinnabar lacquer with brass components. Each vase is decorated with four intricately carved landscape panels depicting figures in a garden setting, complemented by geometric key fret borders and a floral diaper ground texture across the necks and bases. The vessels show minor surface wear along the rims and mouldings. Measuring 25 cm high, 11.5 cm wide and 11.5 cm deep, these cylindrical items are positioned on a wooden surface in the photograph. Such decorative pieces are suited for placement on a sideboard top within a living room, dining area or hallway. The rich red hue and detailed relief carving provide a focal point for traditional interiors. They sit upright on flat circular bases and require no assembly for placement in a home.

FAQs

Cinnabar lacquer is a traditional Chinese decorative art where multiple thin layers of tree sap, tinted red with mercury sulphide, are applied to a substrate and carved with intricate patterns.

Craftsmen built these pieces by applying dozens of individual lacquer coats over a brass or bronze core, allowing each coat to dry before hand-carving detailed low-relief decorative scenes.

Authentic period pieces feature sharp hand-carved relief details with natural depth variations, substantial weight from underlying metal cores, and subtle age-related patination rather than uniform molded seams.

Positioning a symmetrical pair on a dark sideboard or mantelpiece introduces deep crimson tones and tactile relief pattern that complements contemporary neutral walls.

Dust gently using a dry microfibre cloth or natural bristle brush, keep away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity, and avoid contact with liquid solvents.
