Description

An Edwardian glass jug and bowl, topped with a solid sterling silver rim and with the addition of a silver spoon.

The silver rims are hallmarked for Birmingham 1902 and the spoon for Birmingham 1913. There is a little damage to the silver rim on the jug, around the pouring spout, which can be seen in the photographs. The spoon is clearly hallmarked with the maker's name of William Suckling Ltd and is decorated with a foliate design on a shaped handle. The glass is in excellent condition, faceted and clear, with the starburst base which is always a sign of quality.

Dimensions:

Jug Height: 9.5cm

Bowl Diameter: 8cm

Spoon Length: 11cm

A useful set for, maybe, whisky and ice?

Edwardian silver-rimmed items typically feature clear glass bodies accented with hallmarked sterling silver collars, rims, or mounts, reflecting the refined craftsmanship of the early 20th century.

These sets were constructed using blown or moulded clear glass paired with sterling silver components, often secured with specialised adhesives or tight mechanical fittings.

Authentic pieces usually bear clear British silver hallmarks indicating the assay office, date letter, and makers mark on the silver mounts, alongside period-appropriate glass characteristics such as pontil marks or slight imperfections.

Such pieces can be displayed on a sideboard, bar cart, or open shelving to introduce subtle metallic accents and reflective surfaces into traditional or transitional dining spaces.

Wash the glass gently in warm soapy water, avoiding harsh abrasives, and use a dedicated silver polish carefully on the metal rim while ensuring moisture does not seep beneath the mount.
