This “Late 18th Cent Mahogany and Satinwood 8 Day Long Case / Grandfather Clock” found a buyer.

It was listed by Cross Antiques. Sold pieces stay on Sellingantiques as a record of what has passed through, and the next one is rarely far away.

Description

A most attractive longcase clock by Thomas Bates of Market Harborough. He is listed as working there from 1783 to 1835. The case is in lovely figured mahogany with satinwood decoration.

The main feature of this clock is its beautifully painted dial, this has some of the best painting I have ever seen on a clock dial. To the dial centre is a beautiful scene of a maiden and a winged angel. To the arch is a similar painting of a seated maiden.

The case is in reasonable unrestored condition but does have the usual shrinkage cracks, marks and knocks associated with age and use however none of these detract from the overall look of the clock.

The movement has recently been serviced, is running well and keeping good time.

The overall dimensions are:

215cm (84.5") high

54cm (21") wide

27cm (10.5") deep

Free local delivery and setup (60mls), national and international delivery arranged at cost.

Date of Manufacture

Cross Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
