Description

An 8 day longcase clock by Thomas Young of Perth dating circa 1830.

The good quality, small sized case veneered in beautifully figured flame mahogany typical of the high quality longcase clocks made in Perth.

The swan-neck pediment hood with cast brass brass ball finial to the centre and decorative brass paterae to the roundels.

Beneath the swan-neck pediment fine quality mahogany veneers inlaid with ebony stringing, below free standing columns terminating with brass capitals, glazed hood door with decorative knob, glazed movement viewing windows to the hood sides.

The panelled trunk door with choice curled mahogany veneers, flanked by quarter turned reeded columns.

The box base inlaid with ebony stringing and surmounted on shaped bracket feet.

The arched painted dial with green painted corners, beautifully decorated with painted flowers, the arch with further painted flowers and Scottish mountain scene with young boy playing a pipe with his dog by his side. Signed to the centre Thos Young Perth, with subsidiary seconds and calendar zones.

The fully restored good quality movement of eight day duration united by four knopped pillars, anchor escapement and striking the hours on a single bell.
