A very large and impressive original antique French gilt brass cartel wall clock, standing at 27" in height. It is by the famous clockmaker Japy Freres and has the 1855 mark on the movement backplate. It is classical in design, draped in laurel swags held by rams masks applied to an urn to the top. The sides are fretted and backed with red. This is a stunning, very large clock with a superb gild.

The large and superb dial is also gilt brass with 12 individual enamel cartouches and blued steel hands. The bezel is fitted with convex glass.

The French movement is of high quality and has the Japy Freres mark on the backplate. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is an old replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, the gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition just some faint hairlines to the number 6 cartouche. We have replaced the red velvet with fresh. The clock makes a stunning display as you can see below.
