Clock Set ~ Cherub
~ Antique French / Belgian - Circa 1880 ~
~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled and running ~~
It is of fine quality, beautifully finished and gilded, and is modelled in a restrained and chic classical style. The clock is mounted in a drum head case flanked by caryatids. To the top is finely modelled cherub playfully climbing through a ring of lions masks. Candelabra are conforming in style with 4 lights.

Compagnie Des Bronzes built an international reputation for monumental bronzes, producing many important items. The foundry in Brussels is now a museum.
The dial is heavy silvered brass with convex glass. It is mounted with 12 individual enamel cartouches and is complete with original fretted blued steel hands.

The French movement is of very high quality and has the "Cie Des Bronzes" mark on the movement backplate. It is of the best quality, featuring rack striking and pin-pallet escapement. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a sonorous bell. Click the video clip below to hear the gong and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright, highly polished finish and there are no losses. There are some minor areas of wear, marks and discoloration in places. The dial has some chipping to the number 7 cartouche and a some light scratches to the silvering. The original glass has some light scratching and the candelabra arms are slightly distorted.

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
