Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

19th-century Swedish furniture is recognised for its restrained elegance, architectural proportions, and emphasis on natural wood grains such as elm, birch, and pine. Influenced by Gustavian and Biedermeier styles, pieces from this period prioritise clean geometric lines, subtle mouldings, and functional storage.

These cupboards were typically constructed using locally sourced hardwoods like elm or pine veneer over solid timber frames. Construction details often include hand-planed back panels, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and steel or brass escutcheon hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of hand-craftsmanship, such as uneven hand-cut dovetail joints, original lock casings, and natural oxidation on the interior woodwork. The timber will also show age-appropriate patina, shrinkage lines near joins, and hand-tooled moulding edges.

A pair of tall pedestal cupboards can be positioned symmetrically to flank a bed as statement nightstands, placed on either side of a grand doorway, or used to frame a central fireplace alcove. Their vertical scale adds architectural height to minimalist or classic interiors.

Maintain elm furniture by wiping surfaces with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth to remove dust. To preserve the original finish, apply a thin coat of clear natural beeswax polish once or twice a year, avoiding placement near direct heat sources or damp environments.
