Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of nineteenth-century English country dressers comprises a matched set of cabinets constructed from painted pine with glass panes and brass hardware. Each piece features a dark grey finish over the timber, with moulded cornices above upper display sections enclosed by glazed mullioned doors, sitting atop lower cupboards with fielded panels and small round brass knob pulls. Reeded detail appears on the doors and uprights, while visible wear includes chipped paint exposing the lighter wood underneath along the edges and base. Standing 235 cm high, 192 cm wide, and 57 cm deep for the larger cabinet, with one unit being slightly smaller, the pair offers substantial storage and display capacity. Positioned together or separately in a living room, dining room, or hallway, the dressers serve as functional storage units for books, dinnerware, or decorative objects. The glass doors allow for visible organization, while the lower cupboards conceal clutter behind solid wooden panels. The traditional English country aesthetic integrates well with period and rustic interiors, adding character and practical shelving to everyday domestic spaces.

FAQs

An English glazed dresser traditionally combines a multi-door lower storage cupboard with an upper display section enclosed by glass-paned doors. Historically utilised in dining rooms and kitchens during the 18th and 19th centuries, these pieces served to store household linens while showcasing fine china.

Traditional dressers are constructed primarily from native hardwoods or softwoods such as pine, oak, and mahogany. Construction usually incorporates hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon framing, float glass pane glazing, and turned brass or wooden handles.

Authentic period dressers display signs of hand-planed timber, irregular thickness in original blown glass panes, and secondary timber backing boards attached with hand-forged nails. Variations in wear pattern around handles and bases also indicate genuine historical usage.

In contemporary spaces, glazed dressers function as statement storage in dining areas, open-plan kitchens, or living rooms. They are frequently used to house collections of ceramics, glassware, or books while providing concealed storage in the lower cabinet.

Painted finishes require dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and protection from direct sunlight to prevent paint flaking or discolouration. Avoid abrasive liquid cleaners and chemical solvents, applying a soft paste wax sparingly if required to protect exposed timber sections.
