FAQs

Regency era candlesticks, produced from approximately 1811 to 1830, typically feature ornate classical, Rococo revived, or botanical motifs cast in brass or bronze. They reflect the opulent interior design trends popularised in early 19th-century Britain.

Candlesticks from this period were predominantly cast in heavy brass using two-part or multi-part sand moulds. The individual sections, such as the socket, stem, and base, were subsequently hand-finished, chased, and joined with internal threaded rods.

Authentic pieces often exhibit signs of hand-chasing, seam lines from casting, irregular threading on internal rods, and natural surface wear or oxidisation. Weight is also a key indicator, as antique cast brass is noticeably heavier than modern electroplated or stamped reproductions.

Positioning a pair of brass candlesticks on a mantelpiece, dining table centre, or sideboard adds historic texture to modern spaces. Pairing them with natural wax tapers creates balanced visual height and soft ambient lighting.

Clean gently using a soft cloth and mild soapy water to remove dust or wax residue, avoiding harsh chemical abrasive cleaners that strip historic patina. If polishing is preferred, use a specialised brass polish sparingly to preserve detailed surface chasing.
