This George V sterling silver trinket box takes an oval form and dates from 1923, manufactured in Birmingham by B & Co. The piece comprises a hinged cover with an engine-turned pattern across the centre, bordered by a detailed floral and foliate engraving. The entire body displays a polished silver finish, set upon four decorative scroll feet, and features hallmarks stamped near the front edge of the lid. Minor surface marks and rubbing appear across the exterior, alongside slight wear visible on the original fitted silver-gilt interior lining. The container measures 10.5 by 8 by 5.5 cm in size. Positioned upon a bedroom dresser, vanity table, or bedside table, this compact trinket box stores small jewellery items such as rings, earrings, and brooches. The lidded design keeps contents neatly enclosed and protected from dust while resting flat on any horizontal surface in the home.

FAQs

A silver trinket casket is a small, lined or unlined decorative container made from sterling or solid silver, traditionally placed on a dressing table to store rings, cufflinks, and small pieces of jewellery.

Early 20th-century silver caskets were primarily fashioned from sterling silver, featuring machine-engraved engine-turning on the lid, cast silver feet, and hand-chased border decoration.

Authentic British sterling silver pieces feature hallmark stamps, including the anchor symbol for the Birmingham assay office, a lion passant standard mark, a date letter code, and makers initials.

A silver trinket casket can be styled atop a stack of design books on a coffee table, beside a table lamp on a bedside nightstand, or arranged alongside perfume bottles on a vanity tray.

To preserve solid silver, polish regularly with a soft cotton cloth and specialized silver foam, avoiding harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, or abrasive materials that could erode fine surface engraving.
