This Edwardian sterling silver trinket box dates from 1901 and follows an English Country House design vibe. The silver object has a bright metallic finish and features a hinged lid with a repoussé relief depicting a mother embracing a child, complemented by sinuous scrollwork, floral motifs, entrelac decoration, and four curved cast floral scroll feet. The piece measures 6.3 cm high, 8.2 cm wide, and 6.3 cm deep. In a home today, this trinket box works well on a bedside table to hold small items of jewellery or personal accessories. The maker is Henry Matthews in Birmingham, and the object shows very good original condition without any inscriptions and weighs 3.4 Troy Oz.

Edwardian silver design spans from 1901 to 1910, marked by light, delicate ornament, flowing Art Nouveau influences, and classic floral or figurative relief patterns crafted primarily in hallmarked sterling silver.

These small vessels were manufactured using sheet silver shaped via repousse and chasing techniques to create raised relief designs, supported by cast silver feet and fitted with hinged or slip-on lids.

Authentic British silver items display a complete set of hallmarks stamped into the metal, including the lion passant mark for sterling silver, a town assay office mark, a date letter, and a makers initials.

Silver boxes function as decorative accents when displayed on a bedside table, dressing table, or layered atop books on a living room coffee table to introduce textural contrast.

Silver should be cleaned gently using a soft, non-abrasive silver polishing cloth to remove tarnish, avoided contact with harsh chemicals, and stored in dry conditions away from excess humidity.
