A beautiful Edwardian silver oval lidded box with clear hallmarks for Birmingham 1904 and makers mark for Charles Wheatley. The silver box is very good quality as the gauge of silver, exemplified by the thickness of the under edge of the lid and the top edge of the base. The lid is adorned with a relief of Pan playing his pipes under a trees, with birds. Possibly the design takes inspiration from the popular childrens story of Peter Pan, popular at the time. The box and lid have a gilded interior, another mark of quality. The hinge works perfectly.
