This George V sterling silver photo frame dates from around 1920 and follows an English country house style. The solid silver piece features a broad, textured engine-turned geometric pattern across the front, paired with cast silver acanthus leaf corner scrolls and a circular cartouche positioned at the top centre. The immaculate silver surround wraps around the sides to meet a solid oak back equipped with a sturdy easel stand, and includes slightly worn Birmingham hallmarks alongside an unidentified maker's mark. It measures 19 cm high and 14 cm wide, holding a photograph measuring 6 inches by 4 inches. Placed on a sideboard top, this item holds family portraits or cherished prints in a living room, hallway, or study today.

George V era silver, produced between 1910 and 1936, reflects a transition from elaborate Edwardian scrollwork to cleaner, geometric Art Deco influences. Pieces frequently feature engine-turned engraving combined with subtle classical motifs.

These frames were typically constructed using thin sheets of sterling silver mounted over a solid timber or velvet-lined backing, secured with metal easel stands for tabletop presentation.

Authentic British pieces bear official hallmarks including the lion passant for sterling purity, a specific city assay office mark, an individual makers mark, and a date letter corresponding to the George V reign.

Silver frames pair well with modern interiors when arranged in small groupings on a sideboard, desk, or mantelpiece alongside minimalist ceramics and modern art prints.

Gently wipe the surface using a soft microfiber silver cloth, taking care not to push polish paste into the recessed engine-turned pattern or damage the wooden backing.
