This Georgian English wine glass dates from the 18th century, specifically around 1765. Made of clear lead glass and enamel, the piece stands 15 cm high, 7.4 cm wide and 5.7 cm deep. The glass takes the form of a rounded funnel bowl with flute moulding to the lower half, a double series opaque twist stem containing white enamel tapes and cords, and a flat conical foot. Visual inspection reveals a small white inclusion in the bowl metal from manufacture, a rough pontil mark and a dealer or collector sticker on the underside of the foot, and wear and tear to the rim of the foot. In a modern home, this Georgian wine glass suits display on a sideboard top in a gentleman's library. The item is positioned safely away from heavy traffic areas to preserve the antique glass and its age-related characteristics. Collectors can use it as a decorative tabletop accent that highlights traditional English glassmaking techniques from the second half of the 18th century.

An opaque twist wine glass is an 18th-century British drinking vessel featuring internal white enamel threads twisted into spiral patterns within a solid clear glass stem.

Glassmakers arranged white enamel rods inside a cylindrical mould, encasing them in molten clear lead glass before drawing and twisting the rod to form spiral patterns.

Period pieces generally exhibit a snapped pontil mark on the underside of the foot, subtle hand-blown irregularities, and a characteristic weight from lead crystal composition.

Grouping historic stemware inside an illuminated glass display cabinet or arrayed across a dark timber sideboard allows light to highlight the internal stem structure.

Clean lead glass stemware by hand using tepid water and gentle liquid soap, avoiding automated dishwashers and rapid temperature fluctuations that cause cracking.
