This Neoclassical Revival column table lamp from circa 1900 reflects French design sensibilities of the period. The piece combines a brass and dark wood construction with a grey cylindrical fabric shade, an ornate Corinthian capital, a textured shaft with dark beading, a stepped square brass plinth base, and a black twisted electric cord extending from the side. Visible details include patinated brass surfaces with light oxidation and a dark glass or glazed ceramic beaded column texture beneath the capital. Standing at 45 cm high and 16 cm wide, the lamp works well as a practical lighting solution on a gentleman's library desk, a sideboard top, or an entryway console table in a traditional or transitional interior. Ideal for task or ambient lighting, the lamp operates well on side tables, living room sideboards, or bedside surfaces, providing focused illumination while adding architectural character to the space. The muted grey tone of the shade complements the antique metallic finish of the brass base and column fittings, integrating easily into existing interior schemes.

FAQs

A Corinthian column lamp is a classical revival lighting design featuring a stem modelled after ancient architectural pillars, capped with an ornate capital decorated with acanthus leaf motifs.

Traditional column lamps are constructed using cast brass or bronze bases paired with reeded, fluted, or textured glass, marble, or metallic shafts.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy cast metal construction on stepped plinth bases, detailed casting on the capital, natural surface oxidisation, and historical wiring components.

Pair classical architectural column lamps with clean, modern drum shades to balance historical proportions with contemporary lines on sideboards, desks, or console tables.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical polishes to protect the natural aged patina of the metal finish.
