This silver-plated table lamp from 1920 follows a neoclassical revival style, drawing on classical architecture for its design. The piece takes the form of a fluted Corinthian column standing on a square, stepped pedestal base decorated with embossed flower head rosette motifs. A grey pleated fabric drum shade tops the metal shaft, and the lamp retains its silver finish throughout. Observable details include the ornate capital at the top of the column, the crisp vertical fluting along the shaft, and the stepped mouldings on the heavy base. The lamp stands 43 cm high, 17 cm wide, and 17 cm deep. In a contemporary interior, this lamp suits placement on a sideboard top, desk, or side table in a traditional study, a gentleman's library, or a formal living room. The piece provides focused illumination while adding architectural presence to a scheme, pairing well with dark wood surfaces, leather furnishings, and classic decorative accessories.

FAQs

A Corinthian column table lamp is a decorative lighting fixture featuring a stem styled after classical Greco-Roman architectural columns, complete with fluting and an acanthus leaf capital base.

These lamps are typically constructed from solid brass or copper which is electroplated in silver, mounted upon a weighted square stepped base.

Look for maker marks or silver plate stamps near the stepped base, crisp detail on the fluted column stem, and proper period construction details around the socket assembly.

Position the lamp on a dark wood sideboard, console table, or desk paired with a neutral pleated fabric shade to introduce classical architectural structure into modern living spaces.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a specialized silver polishing cream sparingly to remove oxidisation without stripping the underlying plating layer.
